ABOUT
Milán Hodován is a Hungarian, award-winning composer, producer, and songwriter with credits spanning film, video games, and popular music. A graduate of the Liszt Academy's applied music composition program, he began scoring films at age 17 and is equally at home on piano, percussion, and synths.
His score for Benő Baranyi's romantic comedy/sci-fi Zanox – Risks and Side Effects was praised by critics and helped the film reach the Hungarian box office's top 10 in its opening week. In 2020, he scored Barna László's feature-length documentary Hands of God, winner of the grand prize at the 21st Filmtettfeszt. His score for Love, Cherish, Obey (dir. Frigyes Rácz), composed in collaboration with the well-known Hungarian artist Deva, helped the short film earn a selection at the 12th Friss Hús Budapest Film Festival and the Best Foreign Short award at Atlanta ShortsFest.
In 2024, he won Best Original Musical Score for Andrea Szatmári's SwapID at Filmapalooza in Lisbon; the film went on to screen at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. His score for a scene from the Hungarian feature Kincsem – Bet on Revenge placed among the top 10 at the 2nd International Pannonia Film Music Competition (2020), and in 2019 he won Best Musical Score at the Eindhoven Film Festival for the multi-award-winning short Birds on the Catwalk, also directed by Szatmári.
Most recently, Milán composed 13 of the 21 tracks on the soundtrack for Puppergeist, a rhythm visual novel released by Serenity Forge in 2026, working alongside guest composers Kris Wilson, Kan Gao, and Kawai Sprite. He is currently scoring Serenity Forge's next title, Fractured Blooms.
Beyond film and games, Milán plays keyboard and synth in two Hungarian bands, Péterfy Bori & Love Band and kristoaf. In 2021, he co-produced (with DOÓR) the end credits music for Academy Award-winning director Kristóf Deák's feature The Grandson, alongside Hungarian artist OHNODY. Since 2019, he has served as festival composer for the Budapest International Documentary Festival.
